Alan Titchmarsh and ‘Brits’

When I first heard the epithet Britsmy stomach turned because it just oozes self-love.  You do not give YOURSELF an affectionate nick-name; you leave that as the prerogative of other people, and if you want to use affectionate nick-names, then it is appropriate to bestow them on others.  The BRITS are suffering from a very severe doze of NARCISSISM!

 Alan Titchmarsh is a major offender.  He loves the term.  He is currently doing a TV series called THE NATURE OF BRITAIN.  This is going down very well in Britain, but it is merely a very unhealthy  exercise in self-love!

I can tell you the nature of Britain in a word: daffodil… oops … that is to say, Narcissist.

I liked this book very much.  Essentially, it is a collection of samples of the journals of a wide range of different kinds of people, some who use journals professionally, some as recreation.  Therefore, the styles and contents vary widely.  For me it is an invaluable source of reference material, ideas to try out in my own journals.

I like this book, and all the other ‘Art Attack’ books, very much.  They are so full of all sorts and varieties of things to make, some useful, some merely decorative.  So many different materials are used, and in such imaginative ways.  The books are meant for children, but as an adult artist, I find them a constant source of inspiration.  Also, I quite often simply follow the recipe given, and make whatever object is suggested, purely as a sort of exercise to take me ‘out of the mould’.

Dinitopia; DVD 

This is definitely a film to watch, with a good story, superb special effects, and something I find rare these days: a supremely well generated atmosphere.  This one certainly feeds the imagination
